Home Remedies for Sciatica: Homemade Heating Pad

Heat is a very useful form of pain relief for tight muscles in the low back because it helps to open up blood vessels, which leads to more oxygen and blood to painful areas.

In a nutshell, heat helps to reduce spams by relaxing muscles, ligaments, and tendons.

This video will show you how to make a heating pad in 4 easy steps and all you need is 2 hand towels, a ziplock bag, and a microwave oven.

  • Step 1: Wet both towels and wring them until they are just damp
  • Step 2: Place one of the towels inside the ziplock bag (DO NOT seal) and heat it in the microwave for 2 minutes.
  • Step 3: Remove the towel from the microwave (CAUTION: it will be hot), seal the bag, and wrap the other towel around it.
  • Step 4: Place on your lower back for 20 minutes.

This simple heating pad is one of the easiest home remedies to take the edge off sciatica and low back pain.

Make sure you don’t use heat on infants, people with diabetes, or anyone who’s had a stroke because they may have decreased sensation of pain.
